How Do I Get All That Weight Up The Mountain? | Discovery Deadlift Episode 2

(https://bit.ly/3AvVXRr) While he initially filmed his outdoor deadlifts just to review his technique, the difficult process of getting there and the majesty of the scenery around him was too incredible not to share. What started as a solo hobby quickly grew into an adventure for the whole family. Lifting in remote locations helped expand Cooper's appreciation of this king of lifts, which is why he continues to navigate the heavy ruck and rough terrain. Here, he explains how the raw combination of nature and deadlift allows him to shrug off his worries and just—lift. There are few feelings as good as hitting a big deadlift. I started lifting in high school, but it wasn't until after my son was born that I started going to the gym more consistently. I was just doing a basic bodybuilding split—back and bis one day, chest and tris the next. The gym I went to had this deadlift platform. I'd seen people deadlift before and it always kind of intimidated me, but I was in there by myself, and I had the equipment, so I watched a video to make sure I didn't kill myself or break my back, and yeah, just started deadlifting. I don't think I'd ever had a movement that felt as satisfying as the deadlift in and of itself. It's just a metric of overall strength. Just the personal challenge of, "Here's this dead weight, stand up with it." I just started to focus a little bit more on powerlifting in particular, so squatting, bench, and then deadlifting. Overcoming The Weight In my efforts to combat my anxiety, the deadlift kind of became this on-the-nose analogy for it. There's this weight, and you have the opportunity to challenge that weight, to own that weight, and to conquer it. I've hit big deadlifts in the gym, and they've felt great. But now, I've hit big deadlifts in the middle of nowhere, and they've felt even better. What I love so much about what I do now is it's open, nothing's enclosed. I feel like I can breathe. I think also it's just the scope of work to get it there, to do something in a spot where, I'm fairly confident, no one has deadlifted before. How to Deadlift Conventional & Sumo | Mark Bell

This important lift is one of the best for building total-body strength, size, and athleticism. Mark Bell teaches you powerlifting techniques for the conventional and sumo deadlift. ► Can I Deadlift Without Wrecking My Back?: https://bbcom.me/3jWnYeF ► Subscribe: http://bit.ly/2DK5lGD The barbell deadlift is one of the best exercises around, period. Whether you want to build muscle, burn fat, increase athleticism, or focus purely on gaining strength, it's the one movement every lifter must do. But it only helps you out if you learn to do it right. | Proper Deadlift Form | • Your feet should be spaced hip-width apart with your grip just outside your legs. • Use an overhand grip. • Your back should be flat—neutral spine—from start to finish. • Your shoulders should be back and down. • The bar should remain in contact with your legs for the entire range of motion. • Your hips and knees should move together to transfer the bar from the ground to an upper-thigh, locked position.3 • If you can't keep a flat back when setting up to deadlift from the floor, don't lift from the floor! There's no rule that says you have to. Elevate the bar on squat-rack pins or jerk boxes to a position in which you can flatten your spine. This great deadlift variation is called a "rack pull," and it's especially good for those with mobility issues that limit their range of motion. Since many beginners have mobility issues, like tight hamstrings, I recommend you start with the rack pull and gradually progress to the full-range pull. 00:00 - Intro 00:20 - Conventional Foot Position 01:15 - Sumo Foot Position 02:10 - Hip Hinge / Back Flat 02:50 - Getting Air / Get Tight 04:30 - Don't S*** Your Pants 05:30 - Conventional Deadlift Example Reps 07:25 - Sumo Deadlift Example Reps 10:00 - Glutes 11:00 - Head/Chine Position | Follow Mark Bell | ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/37tvPZQ ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/marksmellybell/ ► Twitter: https://twitter.com/MarkSmellyBell | Follower Mark Bell's Power Project | ► YouTube: https://bit.ly/3w0j2JB ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markbellspowerproject/ | Follower Super Training Gym | ► YouTube: https://bit.ly/3h6W6V3 ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thesupertraininggym/ ============================================= | Follow Us | ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 ► Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/1LzBxab ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL ► Google+: http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu ► Pinterest: http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 ► Spotify: http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com. Sumo Deadlift 2. Conventional Deadlift 3. Stiff-legged Deadlift 4. Romanian Deadlift 5. Trap Bar Deadlift | Sumo Deadlift | The sumo deadlift is used by powerlifters as well as traditional athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Compared to the conventional stance, a sumo stance reduces the amount of shear force on the spine and strain on the lower back musculature, making it a great alternative for those suffering from back pain. It also targets the quadriceps and adductors to a greater extent than the glutes and hamstrings. | Romanian Deadlift | First, the RDL allows a much higher intensity level (basically more weight can be used) than a leg curl does. Considering that hamstrings are made up of primarily fast twitch muscle fibers which are best trained with higher intensity levels, the RDL is one of the most effective hamstring exercises you can do. Second, the RDL is also far more functional than leg curls. Sorry folks, but leg curls are not a functional exercise. Although it may seem like knee flexion is a big part of your every day activities like running and walking, a look at the true biomechanics of these activities shows that it is, in fact, hip extension that plays the major role in these activities. Your knee simply flexes in order to reset the leg and start the locomotion movement again, and even there the momentum generated from the hip extension helps swing the lower leg back. Hip extension plays a huge role in several everyday activities, such as the above mentioned running and walking, not to mention jumping and biking. In addition, when you learn to bend over with a heavy weight in the gym while protecting your lower back, you have learned better body mechanics for use outside the gym as well. | Follow Stephanie Sanzo | ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/2CrBvoT ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stephaniesanzo/ | Follow Primeval Labs | ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/2TKNcOC ► Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/primevallabs/ ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/primevallabs/ ► Twitter: https://twitter.com/LabsPrimeval | Primeval Labs Supplements | ► EAA Max: https://bbcom.me/2MrzHDy ► Mega Pre: https://bbcom.me/2Mr4QqM ► Isolit: https://bbcom.me/2Mr55SI ► Intracell 7: https://bbcom.me/2Mrphnt ► Intracell 7 Black: https://bbcom.me/2Ms7Fbb ► Vasogorge Black: https://bbcom.me/2Mr5LaI ► EAA Max Energy: https://bbcom.me/2MsxkjL #deadlifts #Bodybuildingcom #primevallabs #stephfitmum #powerlifter #workout #fitness #bbcom ============================================= | Follow Us | ► Twitch: http://bit.ly/2q1dttE ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 ► Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/1LzBxab ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL ► Google+: http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu ► Pinterest: http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 ► Spotify: http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com. The Muscle Beach Leg Workout | Gavin Matthews

In this timeless pre-exhaust lower-body workout, you'll frontload the volume so you can get the most out of some hard squats at the end. Build your legs the old-school way at Muscle Beach. ► Shop Shop Muscle Beach Nutrition Supplements: https://bbcom.me/2E2lKZz ► All Access 7-Day Free Trial: https://bbcom.me/2E09Or9 When you visit a historic, iconic gym like Muscle Beach Venice, in California, it can be tempting to simply stand along the sidelines and watch. At this gym, unlike anywhere else in the world, athletes are onstage 365 days a year, many doing crazy stunts on the pull-up bars or tossing around weights to earn applause from bystanders. But on the flipside, the great physiques of Muscle Beach's past were forged through hard work, and hard workouts, on the simple machines and free weights along the boardwalk. And the best tribute you can give to bodybuilding history is to fearlessly step up and get under the bar yourself. That's the route that Gavin Matthews, a Muscle Beach Nutrition athlete, takes on his high-volume leg day. There's nothing exotic in this workout. It's all time-tested movements like the leg press, hack squat, lunge, and squat, in a classic pre-exhaust model. You won't need more than 45-50 minutes to knock the whole thing out if you keep the rest periods short, but it'll be the most intense 45 minutes of your week. Don't expect anyone to clap when you finish that last set of squats with a weight far below your max. But expect to feel like you've accomplished something, and like walking to the locker room is a serious challenge. | The Muscle Beach Leg Workout | 1. Leg Press: 4 sets, 20 reps 2. Hack Squat: 4 sets, 15 reps 3. Dumbbell Walking Lunge: 4 sets, 15 reps 4. Giant Set a. Stiff-Legged Dumbbell Deadlift: 4 sets, 10 reps b. Dumbbell Sumo Squat: 4 sets, 15 reps 5. Barbell Squats: 3 sets, to failure | Leg Press | "This is going to warm up all of our joints, our hips, our knees, going to get blood flow to the glutes, the hamstrings, and the quads," Matthews says. But don't just toss on a plate and go to town for 20 reps. Matthews has a very specific protocol in mind. Start by doing 5 reps with your feet wide on the platform and a slow, controlled pace of 3-second negatives and 3-second concentric contractions. Then, immediately move your feet to a neutral, hip-width stance and do another 5 reps focusing on 5-second negatives with explosive concentrics. Then, move your feet to the middle of the platform, in a narrow stance, and do the last 10 reps, focusing on keeping the muscle contracted the whole time. This is pure time under tension, so no locking out those knees! Add weight each set if you can, and rest for no more than a minute between sets. "Keep fighting through it and pump all that blood into that muscle," Matthews says. "That way, it'll warm you up for the next exercise." | Hack Squat | Unlike the leg press, where you were alternating tempos and stances, you'll just hit your reps here with perfect, identical form. "Keep a neutral to narrow stance, focusing more on pressing through the midline of our toes down to our heels, pushing all through our quads to pump them up," Matthews says. "Push through the ball of the foot. Keep the chest out and the back flat on the pad. Focus all your attention with the machine just on the muscle you're working." As they get fatigued, many lifters find they end up on their tippy-toes toward the end of their sets on the hack squat, but Matthews says to focus on staying flat-footed. If these burn your quads like crazy, you're on the right track. | Muscle Beach Nutrition Supplements | ► CRTN-3: https://bbcom.me/2E0a1dV ► 100% All-Pro: https://bbcom.me/2E0aehd ► Pre-Train: https://bbcom.me/2DYPYfG ► Premium Shaker: https://bbcom.me/2E24VxP ► Fill-N-Go Funnel: https://bbcom.me/2E3VbD5 ============================================= | Follow Us | ► Twitch: http://bit.ly/2q1dttE ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 ► Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/1LzBxab ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL ► Google+: http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu ► Pinterest: http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 ► Spotify: http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com. GASP athlete, Austin Haye, takes us inside the world of being a competitive strongman. ► Shop GASP Apparel & Accessories: http://bbcom.me/2nH1SR5 | Follow Strongman Austin Haye | ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tx_strength/ | Introduction | Heavyweight Texas Strongman Austin Haye is currently working in the financial industry as a Credit Analyst at a bank. | Personal Fitness Goals | My personal fitness goals have always been more or less to improve on what I’ve already built and (more recently) staying healthy. …destination has given me that environment that inspires hard work and intensity, as well as the equipment I need for training towards whatever goal I’m chasing. | Biggest Obstacles | Time commitments with family and injuries. While I love pumping iron and getting stronger, my family always has to come first. With a baby on the way, I’ll have to balance my time a little more efficiently to make sure I’m not missing out on anything important at home. Injuries have also been an obstacle I seem to keep running to, especially in 2016. I herniated a disc in my lower back in 2013 and never got it fixed, then it ruptured a year later and I had to get surgery to fix it at the end of 2014. Ever since then, I’ve struggled mentally to work past the fear of re-injuring it. | Advice for Fellow Fitness Enthusiasts | 1. Set goals and write them down. There’s a sense of accountability towards yourself when you write goals down on paper and commit to them. 2. Find others to pursue those goals with you. Whether that’s joining one of the many group training sessions at …destination or putting together a training crew, it’s always better to train with other people. I’m always encouraged to push myself harder and put more effort into my training when I’ve got other people there with me putting in just as much effort. 3. Enjoy fitness – but don’t obsess over it. The point of fitness is to enhance your quality of life, not limit it. Granted, there are times when you’ll have to prep for a show or a meet and you will have to have a very strict schedule/diet, but this should only be for the season. But when you’re not competing, don’t cancel plans with family and friends because it interferes with leg day, or don’t limit the places you’ll go/travel because you won’t have access to boiled chicken and broccoli (that’s a bit extreme, but you know what I’m getting at). ============================================= | Strongman Austin Haye's Favorite GASP Apparel | ► GASP Ribbed T-Back Tank: http://bbcom.me/2nGUwNj ► GASP Vintage T-Back: http://bbcom.me/2nG5t1E ► GASP Basic Utility Tee: http://bbcom.me/2nGogd0 ► GASP Jersey Training Pant: http://bbcom.me/2BJzYwn ► GASP No. 89 Mesh Pant: http://bbcom.me/2BK0RQR ►GASP #1 Mesh Shorts: http://bbcom.me/2nGJIPb ► GASP Gym Hood Jacket: http://bbcom.me/2nItoNU | Strongman Austin Haye's Favorite GASP Accessories | ► GASP Training Belt: http://bbcom.me/2BJzZQX ► GASP Power Belt: http://bbcom.me/2nHcSxF ► GASP Power Wrist Straps: http://bbcom.me/2nI3Bpj ► GASP Hardcore Wrist Wraps: http://bbcom.me/2BYah6X ============================================= | Bodybuilding.com | ► Supplement Store: http://bbcom.me/2nHWKw6 ► Sales & Specials: http://bbcom.me/2nKjvzl ► Fitness Articles: http://bbcom.me/2nIISkY ► Premium Fitness Plans: http://bbcom.me/2BJA2MD ============================================= | Follow Us | ► Twitch: http://bit.ly/2q1dttE ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 ► Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/1LzBxab ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL ► Google+: http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu ► Pinterest: http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 ► Spotify: http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com.
Want a balanced leg workout that gives your quads and hamstrings everything they need to grow? Look no further than Julian Smith's balanced and tactical total-leg workout! ► Get the Full Sets & Reps for this Workout: https://bbcom.me/2GcMjta ► BodyFit Training Programs: https://bbcom.me/2GcmOYQ ► Shop Bodybuilding Signature Supplements: https://bbcom.me/3aB2Y7R ► Subscribe: http://bit.ly/2DK5lGD With a nickname like "The Quad Guy," Optimum Nutrition-sponsored athlete Julian Smith has a lot to live up to when it comes to leg workouts. This master of slow, controlled lifts and old-school bodybuilding techniques understands that, when it comes to legs, it's all about quality over quantity—and his workout does not disappoint. "The key is slowing things down," says Smith. "Working on keeping good form and making sure the muscles are getting everything out of each rep." From old-school sissy squats to muscle-isolating contraction exercises, Smith has the completely balanced leg workout you can take to any gym. | Sissy Squat | Smith starts his leg workout with—you guessed it—quads. As he discussed in his previous article on slow negatives, Smith loves the Smith machine because it allows him to get into more intense quad- or glute-focused positions beyond what a normal barbell can do. "Make sure you are fully warmed up before performing this movement," Smith cautions. "This is as old-school as it gets when it comes to quad training." The Smith machine sissy squat is pure isolation for the quads. If you look at the position your legs are in at the bottom of the movement, the full stretch resembles the leg extension. In addition to completing a good warm-up, Smith recommends strict adherence to proper form. To target your quads, keep your upper leg and torso in line as you lower your body. If you're not comfortable performing this movement on a bench, like Smith does, stand on a small box or step to start until you grow more comfortable. Keep your hips forward throughout the movement so when you come up, you directly work your quads. Perform four sets to failure, focusing on form and technique the entire time. | Close-Stance Barbell Squat | The barbell squat is a classic total-leg exercise, but Smith shifts it to a quad-dominant movement by moving his feet close together and focusing on contracting the quads as he lifts the bar. "Not a lot of people have the range of motion or the flexibility to do something like this," Smith explains, "so just make sure you have good form. Start out light before you get into the heavier sets." If you're wondering how this guy with chiseled quad sweeps and impressive hamstrings became so flexible, you're not alone. "A lot of people ask about my mobility training and how I became so flexible," says Smith. "Well, throughout my workout I sit in the full extension of the sissy squat, stretching my quads while I rest. It keeps me fresh for what I'm about to do and prepares my body for the exercise." Smith's mobility certainly pays off in the close-stance barbell squat. He recommends 4 sets of 6-8 reps for this exercise, stretching for 1-2 minutes in between each set. | Seated Quad Contraction | It may not be a flashy exercise, but if there's one technique that sets this "Quad Guy" apart from the competition, it's his use of flexing and contracting to build and sculpt muscles. The seated quad contraction is exactly that: sitting down and squeezing your quads as hard as you can for 10 seconds at a time. Smith points out this is not the same as locking your legs out, because that would put too much pressure on your joints. "It's the same concept as flexing your arm, but in your quads," explains Smith. Perform 4 sets of 4 reps, holding each rep for 10 full seconds of contraction. Do this right and your quads will burn unlike anything you've ever felt before. No wonder he's known for his legs! ============================================= | Follow Us | ► Twitch: http://bit.ly/2q1dttE ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 ► Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/1LzBxab ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL ► Google+: http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu ► Pinterest: http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 ► Spotify: http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com. When he's not pwning in World of Warcraft, you can find him live-streaming his workouts on Twitch. Follow him around for a day! Free & Flat Rate Shipping on cellucor Supplements| Look for the B-Elite Badge ► http://bbcom.me/24ijm3v | Follow Jackson "Bajheera" Bliton | Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/user/BajheeraWoW Twitch - http://www.twitch.tv/bajheera Twitter - https://twitter.com/BajheeraWoW Jackson Bliton lives in two worlds. In the real world, this 25-year-old Californian lives with his girlfriend, picks up heavy stuff in the gym, devours chicken and butter lettuce with ranch dressing—you know, pretty typical human stuff. Then, at least once per day, Jackson hops on the Internet and transforms into Bajheera, a human warrior with a beard as mighty as his sword. Bajheera battles against fearsome orcs, humanoid bovine creatures called tauren, the living dead, and other creatures you've correctly assumed are not of this world (hopefully). Fire-breathing dragons, elves, creepy-looking fish monsters, and fantastical possibilities all exist within a video game called World of Warcraft, in which Jackson—er, Bajheera—spends a majority of his day, decapitating trolls and yelling fervently at his computer monitor, while tens of thousands of people around the world watch him do it. Thanks to the power of video platforms like YouTube and Twitch, he plays video games for the masses and gets paid to do it. (For those not in-the-know, Twitch is a platform that allows you to live broadcast yourself doing something—usually playing a video game.) Yup, you heard right. Jackson makes a living off slaying baddies in this virtual world for 6-8 hours a day. That's on top of making YouTube videos about playing said video games and interacting with his fans, while still staying in killer shape. Quite simply, Jackson is one jacked gamer. GAMES 'N GAINS THE BEGINNING Every superhero has an origin story. Jackson's knack for fitness sprouted at a young age: "Right from the beginning [my dad] would have me do push-ups. We'd do like 50 push-ups, and he'd do them with me," Jackson recalls of his childhood. Then, one day, the wee-young Jackson was mesmerized by buff cartoon characters on his TV. "I started watching a lot of Dragonball Z and thought, 'Oh my god, those guys are so cool! Dad, I need to go to the gym. I need to try and save the world.'" I suspect that, to this day, Jackson still admires those anime characters, as evidenced by the Dragonball Z shirt he wore during our interview. Thankfully, Jackson didn't take any hairstyle cues from the Dragonball Z characters, although he did finally get to the gym with his dad and iron out his skills in the weight room. Throughout his adolescence, Jackson put time in the gym with his dad, even if he had running practice beforehand. For Jackson, the gym is a stress reliever that allows him to build himself in any way he likes—similar to developing a World of Warcraft character, in fact. "There's no greater feeling than depleting everything you've got [in the gym] and then sitting down to play a video game like World of Warcraft," Jackson says, "in which you can continue the leveling process, after you've leveled yourself in real life, and then continue your training in a virtual world." ============================================= | Bajheera's Favorite Supplements | Cellucor C4 Pre-workout ► http://bbcom.me/2qA3POb - Advanced Pre-Workout for Increased Energy and Focus* - Great Tasting Powder to Provide an Explosive Surge of Motivation* Quest Nutrition Quest Bars ► http://bbcom.me/2qzVUjJ - Whey Protein Bar for Building Muscle* - Gluten Free Bar with High Quality Protein and No Added Sugar* COR-Performance Whey ► http://bbcom.me/2qAcgch - Fast Acting Protein Powder to Build Muscle* - Great Tasting Protein with Minimal Fat and Carbs and Added Digestive Enzymes* ============================================= | Bodybuilding.com | Sales & Specials ► http://bbcom.me/2q1djSY Fitness Articles ► http://bbcom.me/2q1p7Vq #1 Online Supplement Store ► http://bbcom.me/2q1os6y Free Fitness Plans ► http://bbcom.me/2q1dhKU #1 Women's Fitness Site ► http://bbcom.me/2q1ouvc ============================================= | Follow Us | Twitch ► http://bit.ly/2q1dttE YouTube ► http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 Facebook ► http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr Instagram ► http://bit.ly/1LzBxab Twitter ► http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL Google+ ► http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu Pinterest ► http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 Spotify ► http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com.
