12 Must Have Foods For Gaining Size | Evan Centopani

Here are Pro bodybuilder Evan Centopani's top 12 favorite mass-building foods. Use the list as a starting point as you discover the foods that give you the results you want. ► Read The Full Article: https://bbcom.me/3it10fG ► Iron Intelligence - Evan Centopani's Muscle-Building Plan: https://bbcom.me/3ClCswR ► Subscribe: http://bit.ly/2DK5lGD When it comes to gaining size, I don't prioritize any one macronutrient over another or consume any of them in significantly greater quantities than the next. Carbohydrates, proteins, and fats are all crucial for putting on mass. There are many bodybuilding foods that can satisfy your macronutrient and calorie requirements, but I recommend focusing on these 12. What may sound good in theory doesn't always work best in application—and could cost you gains. For example, traditional wisdom held that bodybuilders should skip the white rice and eat brown rice, shy away from white potatoes in favor of yams, and eat egg whites instead of whole eggs to avoid the cholesterol; however, anyone who has ever eaten for maximum size will tell you that brown rice can fill you up too much, eating too many yams can give you gas and make you bloated, and avoiding egg yolks and going for the whites is like throwing away a barbell but keeping the plates. | Beef | Red meat has always been hailed as the king of muscle-building foods, and that isn't wrong. Beef is rich in creatine, B-vitamins, and saturated fats, so you may wonder why you shouldn't just supplement with lean proteins, take some creatine, rely on the B-vitamins in your multi, and call it a day. From my experience with eating red meat on a daily basis, I can tell you that I'm bigger, stronger, and fuller than when I don't. It just works. Whole Eggs It's unfortunate that we're still undoing the stigma around eggs that popped up in the 1980s. People claimed that whole eggs, because of their high cholesterol content, should be severely limited or scrapped altogether in favor of egg whites. This was terrible advice. Chicken Chicken is a mainstay in nearly every bodybuilder's diet, and for good reason. Compared to all other protein sources, it is easily the most economical. You can still find chicken breast on sale for around $2 per pound. It may not be as easy on the digestive system as lean fish, but it's certainly easier to digest than beef and at a fraction of the price. Also, as you're probably well aware, chicken breast is almost all protein and very little fat, yet it still tastes decent and lends itself to a variety of preparations. Fish While fish may lack the hardcore and somewhat legendary muscle-building status that red meat has, it can be a powerhouse when used properly. The one thing that each and every one of us will eventually come to terms with in our attempts to build the maximum amount of muscle is that we can only eat so much damn food. At some point, our aspirations will demand that we eat more. That sounds great, until eating more begins to feel nauseating and impossible. White Rice Conventional wisdom says to eat brown rice because it has more fiber and vitamins. I think that's all crap. Most carbohydrates are a poor source of vitamins and minerals compared to meat and vegetables. Eating too many fibrous carbohydrates will only slow digestion and fill you up more, preventing you from eating to your full capacity. Potatoes Let's continue with the theme of digestive efficiency. I love potatoes for the same reasons I love white rice—they digest incredibly well. There is not much of a difference between white and sweet potatoes, so both are acceptable. It's simply not true that sweet potatoes will somehow lead to ripped abs while white potatoes are made in hell and are a one-way ticket to obesity. | Follow Evan Centopani | ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/2EwiikT ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/evancentopani/ | Follow Animal | ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/2EwiArZ ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/animalpak/ 00:00 - Intro 00:30 - Beef 02:46 - Fish 03:24 - Chicken 03:58 - Whole Eggs 05:35 - Olive Oil 07:20 - Nuts 08:10 - Avocados 10:10 - White Rice & Potatoes 12:35 - Full-Fat Dairy 14:00 - Meal Replacement Powders 15:00 - Carbohydrate Drinks 16:00 - Final Thoughts ============================================= | Follow Us | ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 ► Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/1LzBxab ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL ► Google+: http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu ► Pinterest: http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 ► Spotify: http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com. Are Fats Good For You? | Foundations of Fitness Nutrition

Today, they're having a bit of a revival. ► Learn More With Our Foundations of Fitness Nutrition Course: https://bbcom.me/36Gfphz ► The Complete Guide to Losing Weight: https://bbcom.me/2T8e542 ► Subscribe: http://bit.ly/2DK5lGD Olive oil and even butter are back on the menu, and some fat-replacement "foods" that were once kitchen staples, like margarine and shortening, aren't nearly as popular as they used to be. If this has all left you a bit confused, you're in good company. This lesson will show you how to take a targeted, quality-focused approach to dietary fats. | Essential Ideas From The Video | • Even the leanest person has plenty of stored body fat. The average man has about 100,000 calories of stored fat, as compared to the 1,500-2,000 calories known as glycogen, or carbohydrates. This stored fat is crucial! It insulates and protects your vital organs, and it's also your body's primary source of energy at rest and during low-intensity exercise. • Like protein, fats are also part of who you are. Body fat helps form cell membranes and is a major part of many organs, including around 60 percent of your brain. • Fatty acids also act as cellular messengers, helping proteins do their jobs, and helping you store and process essential nutrients and vitamins. They're also essential for regulating levels of hormones such as testosterone—low-fat diets have been connected with decreased testosterone levels. • Saturated fats come primarily from animal sources like meat and dairy products, and some tropical nuts like coconuts. Another way to remember this is that they are all fats that are solid at room temperature. • Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats more often get labeled "healthy" fats. We get these from nuts and seeds, certain vegetables like avocados or olives, and fish. • Trans fats are naturally occurring in small amounts, but the artificial variety has been connected to a number of series health issues and is best avoided. • The difference between all of these fats isn't dramatic, it's just a carbon molecule here or there. Fats are more similar than they are different, and when it comes to adding fats to your diet, the differences only become problematic when you dramatically over-rely on one type or another. • The same goes for omega-6 and omega-3 fats. Omega-6 fats, which are located in abundance in many meats, vegetables, grains, and oils, have important health properties. But when we eat them to the almost total exclusion of omega-3s, as many people do, then they end up negating the good effects of omega-3s. In that case, the omega-6s can end up potentially causing inflammation and other problems. • A good goal, for health and performance, is to get away from a 10:1 omega-6 to omega-3 ratio and strive for more like 4:1. It's also good to tip the scales more toward unsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats, eating them about twice as much as you eat saturated fats. • A simple approach that allows you to get maximum benefits from healthy fats is to get most of your fat from non-meat sources like nuts, seeds, and vegetables, and have some at most meals. Eat fish 2-3 times a week if your diet allows it, and add a thumb-sized portion of oil, nuts, or avocado to meals regularly. • Rather than obsessing over types of fat, simply know your best fat sources, and prioritize them when you assemble your meals every day. Rather than looking for a trick—like "low-fat ice cream"—that seems to allow you to eat junk food more often, start by getting enough quality fat in the right portions in your diet regularly. 00:00 - Intro 00:47 - Fats: What Do They Do? 04:43 - Fats: Where You Get Them Matters 08:55 - Quality First, Quantity Second ============================================= | Follow Us | ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 ► Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/1LzBxab ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL ► Google+: http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu ► Pinterest: http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 ► Spotify: http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com. Calories & Food Labels | Foundations of Fitness Nutrition

We're going to discuss the way most of us currently measure food as a fuel source: the calorie. ► Learn More With Our Foundations of Fitness Nutrition Course: https://bbcom.me/3wRaaqN ► The Complete Guide to Losing Weight: https://bbcom.me/3qjEEQ1 ► Subscribe: http://bit.ly/2DK5lGD A calorie-focused approach to nutrition has many limitations, but it still has important uses in certain situations. So, let's try to provide a little clarity, and try to help you make the most of the information that's on a food label. | Essential Ideas From The Video | • The calorie is not a universally accepted system of measurement. But every point made about it in this video can also be applied to other measurements like joules, kilojoules, or kilocalories. • The biggest advantages to calories are that they give you an objective way to measure very different meals, and to make more informed decisions about portion sizes. This can be helpful because portion size has increased immensely in restaurants and homes in recent decades. • Calories can also help you see how small indulgences, like a daily soda pop can add up over time. One soda a day is enough extra calories to add 15 pounds of weight in a year! • Beer, wine, cocktails, and coffee drinks may not have food labels, but they're definitely not calorically "free." • A major downside to calorie counting is that it's never totally accurate, even if you take the number on the label as gospel. •Packaged foods have been shown in research to have a lot of variability in caloric accuracy. It's normal for them to underreport both carbs and total calories by 25, or even up to 95, percent. • Another flaw in calories: Digestion is highly complicated and personal, and the number you eat is never exactly the number your body absorbs. Hard-to-digest foods like meat and nuts can increase inaccuracy by another 25 percent, or more. • A final flaw: As soon as people start counting calories, they often start cutting them—often too low, and without taking enough care where they're cutting from. Getting too few calories, for too long, is a big problem that can make it harder to maintain a healthy body composition, leave you feeling awful, and put you no closer to your goals. • So, what's a better way to get the benefits of calories? First, by sticking primarily to whole foods, you'll avoid the calorie inaccuracies that are common in processed foods. Second: Don't just exercise to burn calories. Why? You burn far less than you think, even in intense training, and judging your training by how many calories you burned is just a good way to end up hating exercise. • Think portions, not just numbers. In future videos, we'll show some hands-on ways to measure portions. You can also control portions with how you eat; research says to eat slowly, off of a plate whenever possible, and have a plan rather than making decisions on the fly. •If you've been counting calories forever, you don't need to stop. Just consider it one measurement among many. Food quality matters just as much, and matters more in terms of how a food will affect your blood sugar and hunger levels, or how it will help (or not help) fuel you through hard training and recovery. | Our Experts | Douglas Kalman and Susan Hewlings both have Ph.D.s and are registered dieticians, experienced researchers, and accomplished athletes. How you eat matters just as much to where you'll end up, both athletically and in terms of your health! ► Learn More With Our Foundations of Fitness Nutrition Course: https://bbcom.me/3zo1J8d ► The Complete Guide to Losing Weight: https://bbcom.me/3xkMtr0 ► Subscribe: http://bit.ly/2DK5lGD Foundations of Fitness Nutrition is designed to be a comprehensive and applicable guide to help everyone make more educated choices about the food they eat—especially people with fitness or physique goals. It's taught by two registered dietitians with Ph.D.s who have worked with all kinds of athletes, and are athletes themselves. Where does your journey to greater health and optimal performance begin? By taking a hard look at your mindset, and at the timeless question, "What is a healthy diet?" • The goal of this series isn't to push a particular diet, but to help establish behaviors that will help you thrive on any diet or eating approach. You should also be able to compare different eating systems more effectively for your goals, and be able to be more critical of common nutritional myths. • Nutrition and perfection don't go together, even though our brains like clean categories of "yes" and "no." However, constantly thinking in terms of "this is good for me" and "this is bad for me" misses the bigger picture: the overall balance of the food you eat, the nutrients you're getting, and how food translates to energy levels or recovery from training. • A great way for athletes and fit people to define nutrition is: Giving your body what it needs to survive, and to support your activity goals. In other words, looking at food as fuel first and foremost. • Nutrients come in two classes. The first is macronutrients: protein, carbohydrates, fats, and alcohol. These are all "fuel" more literally, and have a specific value that can be measured in calories. The second category is micronutrients, and includes things like vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and all the other non-caloric substances that your body uses to facilitate countless processes. You don't use these as fuel, but if you're not getting enough of them, you'll definitely feel the effects. • Healthy diets of all types share a few unifying characteristics. They have adequate variety of foods and nutrient sources, a balance of macro and micronutrients, and maximum nutrient density with minimum empty calories. • A simple seven-word foundation to build on when choosing foods is "Not too processed, not too many ingredients." It's somewhat vague, but by prioritizing whole foods whenever possible, you can cut down on all the traditional nutritional bad guys, and maximize the amount of quality fuel and nutrients you get in each meal. | Our Experts | Douglas Kalman and Susan Hewlings both have Ph.D.s and are registered dieticians, experienced researchers, and accomplished athletes. The question "How do I lose weight fast?" gets asked even more. Unfortunately, the so-called answers that pop up are usually ridiculous "weight loss tips" that don't actually explain what a person needs to do in order to lose what they don't want and keep it off. What's worse, they often conflict with one another, creating more lasting confusion than lasting results. The truth is far simpler. You can lose weight with any number of approaches you may have heard of: IIFYM, paleo, low-carb, vegetarian, ketogenic, or intermittent fasting. It's also possible to lose by doing nothing more than eating good food in a moderate amount. Sustainable physique transformation happens by making healthy alterations to your diet, controlling your overall calories (or portions, to think of it another way), and exercising regularly. Any other approach may work in the short term, but will the results last? Importance of Intra Workout Nutrition | Kris Gethin

Ensuring you’ve topped up with amino acids, beta-alanine, pump-inducing L-citrulline, and even caffeine can all help you power through to the very last rep. ► Shop In-Kaged by Kaged Muscle: https://bbcom.me/323Z82W ► Shop Pre-Kaged by Kaged Muscle: https://bbcom.me/2SD7X0J ► Kris Gethin's 12-Week Muscle Building Program: https://bbcom.me/37DVb68 ► Subscribe: http://bit.ly/2DK5lGD | 5 Ways to Boost Intra-Workout Performance | Through years of trial and error, advanced athletes have come to realize that optimizing their time in the gym can have profound effects on their performance. Many intermediate lifters find out the importance of optimizing their intra-workout habits the hard way. It usually happens when they’re crushing a workout at a new level of intensity when suddenly their gas tank runs dry. That’s when many lifters have no choice but to grind through a subpar second half of the workout, setting themselves up for suboptimal results. Here are five things you can try for your next workout to ensure you finish as strong as you start: Be Present: Remember that you’re in the gym to make progress, so be present during each rep and between sets. Before you get to the gym, you should have a plan of what you want to accomplish. This also means no texting or scrolling through social media between sets. Instead use that time to catch your breath and visualize how you’re going to improve your form on your next set. During your sets, focus on the mind-muscle connection and make sure you’re fully contracting your targeted muscles. Do a Thorough Warm-Up: A common mistake many novices will make is jumping straight into their working sets. By warming up your muscles with stretches, steady state cardio or light weights, you help get blood flowing to your muscles to better prepare them to handle the serious weights. Use this warm-up time to improve your technique, getting quality reps in at a low intensity. Hydration: While most people are aware of the importance of hydration, it’s often an afterthought, if it’s considered at all. Consuming enough fluid during your workout will help make up for what you inevitably lose while training. Factors like the style of training you’re doing, the temperature, and your fluid consumption before you even start your workout will all impact your sweat rate, so be sure to stay hydrated. Track Your Workout: Track important details of your workout like the weight amount you use, the reps done per set and your heart rate during cardio. Recording this information will help you have numbers to try to improve upon each workout. Having small benchmark goals to try to beat each workout will motivate you to get the most out of each workout. Fuel to FInish Strong: Intra-workout nutrition can have a dramatic impact on your workout, too. Ensuring you’ve topped up with amino acids, beta-alanine, pump-inducing L-citrulline, and even caffeine can all help you power through to the very last rep. Of course, it would be difficult to get all these nutrients from food alone during your workout, not to mention inconvenient. That’s where an intra-workout formula like IN-KAGED® comes in. Because it’s been formulated to address the challenges of mid-workout nutrition, it’s an effective way to push your body to finish as strong as you started. Try a scoop of IN-KAGED® during your next workout, WOD, or game, and feel the difference. The results will surprise you. We’ve all had training sessions that started out strong, but quickly fizzled into merely moving through one exercise after another. To keep those sessions to a minimum, and ensure you’re always bringing the heat to the gym floor, keep your mind and body engaged. Eliminate any roadblocks, mental or physical, that stand in the way of your goals, and get after it. ============================================= | Follow Us | ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 ► Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/1LzBxab ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL ► Google+: http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu ► Pinterest: http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 ► Spotify: http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com.
