This Bodybuilding.com Team Athlete coach has come a long way since then! Recommended Supplements ► http://bbcom.me/2lixTeM Top 50 Best Supplements ► http://bbcom.me/2liBeKO Lee Constantinou's Lean Strength Back and Biceps Workout ► http://bbcom.me/2limITs Picture Lee Constantinou as a young boy growing up in North London: overweight, into video games, last one chosen for pick-up games, suffering from asthma and a lack of confidence. He wasn't, as he readily admits, naturally gifted when it came to sports. That began to change when his dad enrolled him in a local karate school. Four years later, he earned his black belt. But even then, he didn't really have much muscle on him. "I saw pictures of guys like Jean-Claude van Damme and thought, 'I want to look like that,' says Lee. "I wasn't 16 yet, so I started sneaking into the gym with my older brother to start hitting our upper bodies." Lee and his brother would do chest and triceps one day, back and biceps another day, and for the last day, shoulders—just shoulders. "We were young then and didn't see any value in working on our legs," he says. At that time, he was often depressed. He found that by applying the discipline he had learned from martial arts, he was able to progress rapidly with his weight training. The harder he worked, the more his body responded. The more ripped he looked, the more his confidence grew. Years later, when Lee enrolled at a university, he had his sights set on entering the business world. But he found his heart wasn't in that curriculum. "I switched my major to personal training, got certified, and focused on becoming the most amazing trainer I could be," he says. "I wanted to be good so I could help other people overcome their challenges." Having surmounted so many barriers of his own, Lee wants to pass on the lessons he's learned the hard way. "I know what it feels like to be out of shape, to lack confidence," he says. "I saw firsthand how developing your body can build self-confidence. I want to pass that lesson on to others." ============================================= | Recommended Supplements | Pro Jym Protein ► http://bbcom.me/2liorZ7 - Blended Protein Supplement for Maximum Effectiveness* - Made with the Highest Quality Whey, Casein, and Egg Proteins Kaged Muscle Pre-Kaged ► http://bbcom.me/2liyD3A - Revolutionary Pre-Workout Primer! - Supercharge your Adrenaline and Increase Workout Performance! Recommended Supplements ► http://bbcom.me/2lhHq61 Top 50 Best Supplements ► http://bbcom.me/2lhMOpC Lee Constantinou's Lean Strength Back and Biceps Workout ► http://bbcom.me/2lhKmiZ Compared to some bodybuilding workouts, you get lots of rest but not because Lee Constantinou is a nice guy (although he is). He wants you to be able to fully recuperate between sets so you can apply maximum intensity at every set. "If you rush your rest, you're not going to have that same focus and intensity," Constantinou says. "Work hard, rest, and focus on your technique. You'll see bigger, wider lats and beefier biceps." | Rack pull | After warming up adequately, load your 5RM weight and see if it lives up to its name. A sixth rep should feel like a questionable proposition in each set. Keep your back straight, chest lifted, core tight. Sit back on your heels and drive through your hips; squeeze your glutes as you drive up. Pull your shoulder blades back so you can engage your lats; squeeze your lower back muscles as you lift. Use straps if you need to. Rest the full 3 minutes so you're ready to give it your all in every single set. | Weighted wide-grip pull-up | If a set of 6 reps isn't anywhere near failure for you, load up with either chains or a belt—whatever you have access to. Make sure you grip is outside shoulder width, and keep your chest lifted throughout the movement to fully engage your back muscles. Try not to round your shoulders forward, or you'll lose tension in your lats. Use part of your rest period to add more chain or more weights to your belt so you can hit failure at 6 reps. | Single-arm dumbbell row | Start with a warm-up set using light weight, then take 3 sets to failure at around 8 reps apiece. Use a slightly inclined bench to reduce pressure on your lower back and so you can fully engage and then stretch out your lats. Go straight from one arm to the other, working the weaker side first if possible. Keep your workout balanced so you isolate each lat equally. Then rest up. | Pull-down superset | You're not going to rest between exercises here, but you will get a 2-minute rest between supersets. You'll start the superset with a compound movement, the underhand pull-down, and then then move into an isolation exercise, the straight-arm pull-down. In both exercises, if the first set it too easy, make sure you increase the weight enough so you can maintain intensity, but no so much that you can't hit those 10 reps. | Barbell curl | Use just the bar for a warm-up set, then go straight to a weight where you'll fail at right around 8 reps per set. Keep your knees slightly flexed and your feet hip-width apart. Pull you shoulder blades back and fully straighten out your arms so you can get a full stretch across your biceps. At these heavier weights, you can relax your technique slightly to get the weights up. Just be sure you can control the negative portion and fully straighten your arms at the end to give your biceps a good stretch. | Standing hammer curls | Go heavy to the bitter end! Use a weight that causes you to fail at around 8 reps. Focus on squeezing each biceps on the way up, then slowly control the weight on the way down. Toward the end, if you find yourself loosening up your technique to raise the weight, be sure to balance it by focusing on a slow, controlled negative movement. ============================================= | Recommended Supplements | Pro Jym Protein ► http://bbcom.me/2lhFwCj - Blended Protein Supplement for Maximum Effectiveness* - Made with the Highest Quality Whey, Casein, and Egg Proteins Kaged Muscle Pre-Kaged ► http://bbcom.me/2lhG0bw - Revolutionary Pre-Workout Primer! - Supercharge your Adrenaline and Increase Workout Performance! Main Muscle Worked: Middle Back Other Muscles: Biceps, Lats, Shoulders Equipment: Cable Mechanics Type: Compound Level: Beginner | Directions | 1. For this exercise you will need access to a low pulley row machine with a V-bar. Note: The V-bar will enable you to have a neutral grip where the palms of your hands face each other. To get into the starting position, first sit down on the machine and place your feet on the front platform or crossbar provided making sure that your knees are slightly bent and not locked. 2. Lean over as you keep the natural alignment of your back and grab the V-bar handles. 3. With your arms extended pull back until your torso is at a 90-degree angle from your legs. Your back should be slightly arched and your chest should be sticking out. You should be feeling a nice stretch on your lats as you hold the bar in front of you. This is the starting position of the exercise. 4. Keeping the torso stationary, pull the handles back towards your torso while keeping the arms close to it until you touch the abdominals. Breathe out as you perform that movement. At that point you should be squeezing your back muscles hard. Hold that contraction for a second and slowly go back to the original position while breathing in. 5. Repeat for the recommended amount of repetitions. | Caution | Avoid swinging your torso back and forth as you can cause lower back injury by doing so. | Variations | You can use a straight bar instead of a V-Bar and perform with a pronated grip (palms facing down-forward) or a supinated grip (palms facing up-reverse grip). | Bodybuilding.com | Fitness Apps ► http://bbcom.me/1WE51gy Sales & Specials ► http://bbcom.me/1WE57Vi Fitness Articles ► http://bbcom.me/1WE57EM #1 Online Supplement Store ► http://bbcom.me/1WE4Vpi Free Fitness Plans ► http://bbcom.me/1WE59wz | Follow Us | YouTube ► http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 Facebook ► http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr Instagram ► http://bit.ly/1LzBxab Twitter ► http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL Google+ ► http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu Pinterest ► http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 Spotify ► http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com. Position a weighted bar across your upper back holding the ends with your hands to keep it stable. Alternately, you can do this in a squat rack to more easily get into the starting position. Stand erect with your chest out and your shoulders back, maintaining the natural curve in your back and knees unlocked. Your feet should be about hip width apart. This is your starting position. 2. Staying erect, initiate the movement by stepping back with one foot about 2 feet, keeping your hips facing forward as the toe of your back foot makes contact first. Then allow both knees to bend and descend just short of allowing your trailing knee to touch the floor. 3. Your body should continue to be upright. Don't lean forward or allow you back to round. Press back up by pushing through your back foot maintaining balance as you return to the starting position. 4. Repeat on the opposite side, and repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
