Even if you're not inclined to do his workout, you'll find some of his exercise variations novel and perhaps a good fit for your own routine. One caveat: Beginners should focus on training chest and shoulders more comprehensively than this more focused workout allows. This workout is best suited for lifters who are a little more advanced. | Kizzito's Kitchen-Sink Approach | The basic workout structure is conventional: Multijoint mass-building movements are done first, followed by single-joint exercises and what he calls "shaping" movements. But there are all sorts of deviations from standard fare along the way. Here's a closer look at the routine, in order. | Push-Up | Everyone has a different degree of strength on this basic warm-up move. Ejam suggests taking as many sets as you need, so long as you reach 30 reps total. In a flash of his trademark showmanship, Ejam does it all in a single set. | Incline Barbell Press | After a warm-up set, Ejam loads up the weight for 4 sets of just 6 reps. In a nod to a technique he learned from four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler, Ejam takes a momentary break in the set if he can't reach his rep target, perhaps no longer than 5 seconds, and then continues going until he reaches his rep target. | Incline Dumbbell Press | Ejam uses an incline that's slightly less steep than the one he uses for the barbell version. He also uses a relatively lighter weight for 8 reps while also cutting his rest periods to 45 seconds. He recommends choosing a weight that makes the last rep a real struggle. | Guillotine Press | Ejam jams over to the flat bench for this movement, aptly named because it entails lowering the bar toward your neck. (We recommend using a spotter for that reason.) Ejam notes that because of the angle, you'll likely have to use less weight than you do with the flat-bench barbell press. He aims for 15 reps per set. | Supinated Smith Machine Shoulder Press | If you were looking for the move that delivers a "push-up-bra effect," according to Ejam, you'll find it here. The supinated grip is new for many lifters, but drawing your elbows forward clearly marks its intended target: the anterior delts. Ejam also doesn't go anywhere close to full arm extension, effectively eliminating the triceps from the movement. Shoulder presses also recruit the upper pecs. While this exercise could be done with a seat back, Ejam prefers to sit on a flat bench to make his core work that much harder to stabilize him. The target here is 12 reps. | Low Cable Cross-Over | Lowering the pulleys to their bottom-most position shifts the emphasis of this single-joint move to the upper pecs. Ejam locks his elbows in a slightly bent position and holds that arm position throughout. After completing 12-15 reps, Ejam moves quickly to the second half of the superset. | Low Cable Press | Still using an underhand grip, Ejam now unlocks his elbows and does short presses in front of him through a very short range of motion. Like the cross-over, this move falls right on the upper chest and front delts. Without extending his elbows, triceps involvement is minimized. He toughs these out, barely completing his target of 8-12 reps. After a brief rest, he completes the superset two more times. | Bodyweight Dip for Chest | The final exercise pairing couples this multijoint bodyweight move with a single-joint exercise for the front delts. Ejam can do about 8-12 dips, but if you can't do that many, use an assisted-dip machine. Regardless, the idea is still to reach complete muscle failure. To keep those dips focused more on your pecs and less on your triceps, lean forward! After finishing the reps, go right into the next exercise. ============================================= | Follow Us | ► Twitch: http://bit.ly/2q1dttE ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 ► Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/1LzBxab ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL ► Google+: http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu ► Pinterest: http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 ► Spotify: http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com. You want a pair of your own? Here's the workout that can help you build them! See if you can keep up. ► Get the Full Sets & Reps for this Workout: https://bbcom.me/320GNC8 ► Shop Bodybuilding Signature Supplements: https://bbcom.me/322Wfhc ► All Access 7-Day Free Trial: https://bbcom.me/2orUMDo ► Subscribe: http://bit.ly/2DK5lGD My approach to delts is pretty easy: I hit them as hard as I can. I want to drive as much blood into my muscles as possible. I don't want to lose the pump! In this delt homicide workout—shot at Big John's Fitness in Nampa, Idaho—I run through supersets, dropsets, and pyramid sets. I use a massive amount of volume, pull out the stops, and bring out all the tricks. Sometimes I use 40 or 50 reps per set. All I do is work, hustle, and kill. Think you can keep up? You might need to hire a lawyer before you start this workout, because you're about to murder your delts! | Start with Your Weakness | I have a huge chest day, so I hit my front delts while I'm doing presses and flyes. That's why I usually put front delt muscles on the back burner for this workout. I like to start with the rear delts because they're the weakest part of my shoulders. Any time you have a weakness, hit it when you have the most energy. A pack of cable flyes and face pulls should do the trick! | Lean Into Your Laterals | I like to hit my muscles with a little variation, which is why I like to lean during my cable lateral/deltoid raises. The lean gives you a little more range of motion so you can bring your arm higher. It delivers more contraction at the top and more tension at the bottom of each rep. | Work Your Traps with Upright Rows | I like to use a close grip with my upright rows because it really hits my traps. I haven't done a shrug in my life! I think I hit my traps with uprights and lateral raises, which means I'm getting a little more out of the exercise. I also pull all the way to my chin instead of stopping at my chest. | Sit Backward on the Hammer Shoulder Press | This reversed position helps me hit my front delts a little more. I hit each arm separately so I can concentrate on one delt muscle at a time. | Use Double Pyramid Sets | For my dumbbell side lateral raises, I like to use a double pyramid set of 15, 10, 15 reps. Use a lighter weight when you go for 15 reps, and then bump it up when you go for 10. Don't grab an insanely heavy dumbbell. Instead, use something that's about 70 percent of what you'd max out on. Come back down to the lighter weight when you go back to 15 reps. Don't be afraid to do pause sets. You'll see me stop and go again in many of my sets. The whole point is to get to the numbers I want. I don't stop until I get there! So if you have to give your muscles a rest before pumping out a few more, that's fine. Usually, on that last set, I can only get about 5 reps at a time. | Use Triple Dropsets | I call my last movement in this workout a triple dropset, but it uses two different exercises, so it's really a drop superset. This big set is great because you use various grips and hit your front delts in different ways! First, grab the EZ-bar with an underhand grip. I like this grip because it isolates the front delts. Choose a weight that will smoke you by the time you get to 12 reps. When you've hit 12 reps with the EZ-bar, move immediately to a plate raise. I like to use a 45-pound plate, but use what you can so you fail at 10-12 reps. Then drop immediately to a 25-pound plate and rep until failure. Good luck with my Delt Homicide Shoulder Workout.
