Bands Help Build The Mind-Muscle Connection By now you've probably heard of the mind-muscle connection and how it can benefit your workout and improve your gains. What you may not know is that the dynamic resistance of bands can make it easier to establish that connection. The increasing resistance of a band forces you to focus at the end of the range of motion and make sure you get a good squeeze on each rep, which ultimately will help you build your mind-muscle connection. To get the most out of this technique, do your band work first in your workout to establish the mind-muscle connection early and maximize every exercise. 2. Bands Keep Constant Tension On The Target Muscle One of the well-known benefits of bands is dynamic tension, yet many experienced lifters forget that, unlike free weights, bands also provide constant tension. 3. Bands Are Not Just For Warm-Ups Bands are a common sight in warm-up and cool-down areas in many big box gyms, but if that's the only time you use them, you're not tapping your full workout potential. The constant, dynamic resistance of bands is challenging but accessible, making them adaptable to virtually any fitness level and any fitness goal. You can apply them to a variety of exercises, modalities, and training goals. You can use them to assist with difficult bodyweight movements such as pull-ups or dips and to add intensity to other foundational movements such as squats and lunges. 4. Bands Build Muscle Resistance bands can build actual muscle. Yes, it's true. That's because the tension the bands place on the muscle fibers can cause the same microtears required to stimulate muscle growth that lifting weights causes. 5. Bands Combine With Free Weights For A Killer Workout Using bands adds more resistance right at that point in the exercise when you are the strongest, matching the strength curve to make the movement more challenging throughout the range of motion. This will help you work through strength plateaus and put up bigger PRs. ============================================= | Follow Us | ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 ► Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/1LzBxab ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL ► Google+: http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu ► Pinterest: http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 ► Spotify: http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com. Ultimate Resistance Band Shoulder Workout | David Morin & Rachel Pyron

This intense shoulder routine shows how resistance bands can stimulate muscle growth, strengthen the joints, and transform boring workouts for lifters of all backgrounds. ► Shop Undersun Resistance Bands: https://bbcom.me/3dhhZLU ► Jacked at Home: Bodyweight Muscle-Building Workouts: https://bbcom.me/2Y3hKzT ► Subscribe: http://bit.ly/2DK5lGD Using bands can provide a welcome relief from free weights, but that's not all; bands can also provide exactly the stimulus your shoulders need to gain size and strength. To test this theory, we brought together two completely different training styles to create one intense shoulder workout. Worlds collide as fitness model David Morin and Bodybuilding.com employee and Strongwoman competitor Rachel Pyron band together for this challenging session. Morin has been using bands in his training for some time and is eager to show what they can do. "After weight training for many, many years, I've experienced weaknesses in joints," he says. "These areas of opportunity are where I can use a different modality to create strength in those joints." Pyron, on the other hand, admits that, like many in her sport, she uses bands primarily for warm-ups. "I think that's kind of traditionally how they are used in the Strongman world," she explains. "Especially when you're traveling and you don't have a lot of equipment to warm up with." Morin and Pyron take you through a succession of movements to challenge your shoulders and target the secondary muscles around the shoulder joint. If you've only used dumbbells and cables, this workout will feel very different. That's normal, according to Morin. "You're going to get that metabolic stimulation in the muscle tissue and a lot of blood flow," he says. "Which is all going to be great for the shoulder health in general." | Single-Arm Band Shoulder Press | "The differentiation with this type of band resistance versus your typical standard dumbbell or barbell presses is that it's a unilateral exercise that challenges your stability on the opposing side," Morin says. "The way that your body has to move and engage to get the full range of motion is going to stimulate the shoulder through a greater range." | Upright Row | Switch bands if you need to on this exercise and remember that you can always increase the resistance by taking a wider stance. Stand on the band and hold the other side with your hands about shoulder-width apart in the start position. You're aiming for fewer reps than you did on the shoulder press, just enough to get that medial-delt activation. If you've struggled with joint issues on upright rows, switching to bands can be very helpful. | Band Raise-fly-Row Combo | This combination exercise is unique to band training, but all the components should feel familiar. Stand on one end of the band with both feet as you pull the other end up in a front raise. Keeping your arms at approximately shoulder height, pull the band apart in a rear delt fly, engaging the rear delts with the pull and the medial delts by holding the band high. Bring the band back to center, then bend your elbows back to pull the band to your chest. Extend your elbows to push the band back out and reactivate the front delts, then lower to the starting position. This entire sequence counts as one rep. Keep your knees soft to take the pressure off your back, and if you need more resistance, take a wider stance. | Single-Arm Band Lateral Raise | No shoulder workout would be complete without the lateral raise, and the goal here is burnout, aka, as many reps as possible. "Some days you have more reps in you than others," explains Morin. "With bands, you can safely go past thresholds without injuring yourself and impairing the joints." To push yourself on burnout, you can do one of two things: Increase the resistance by widening your stance, or do extra reps. ============================================= | Follow Us | ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 ► Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/1LzBxab ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL ► Google+: http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu ► Pinterest: http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 ► Spotify: http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com. How to Use Resistance Bands in Your Next Workout | James Grage

James Grage shows you how to incorporate exercise bands into your bodyweight routine to get a gym-level workout using only the power of bands. ► Shop Undersun Resistance Bands: https://bbcom.me/3cFDwxq ► Jacked at Home - Bodyweight Muscle-Building Workouts: https://bbcom.me/2XDPyU1 ► Subscribe: http://bit.ly/2DK5lGD With the rising popularity of non-gym workouts, it's important to know all the ways you can incorporate at-home tools into your training to get a great workout anytime, anywhere, and at any fitness level. James Grage, a fitness expert and the creator of Undersun Fitness, understands exactly how effective exercise bands can be. He's been building muscle and maintaining his chiseled physique for years using little more than bands, and he's here to show you exactly how to incorporate them into your next workout. "There are two reasons why you might want to use bands in your workout," explains Grage. "The first is to add more resistance, but the other is to assist with an exercise and actually take some resistance off." | Using Bands to Assist | One of the most common ways exercise bands are used is to assist with a difficult bodyweight exercise, such as triceps dips. As Grage demonstrates, you can use a band to assist with a dip by anchoring the band to the parallel bars and placing your knees or feet on the center of the band to do the exercise. If you don't need assistance but want to use bands to build more strength, you can do as many repetitions as possible using body weight, and then once you max out, use the band to get a few more reps, just as you would on an assist machine. What makes bands uniquely effective for assistance exercises is variable resistance. As Grage explains it, the farther you stretch a band, the more it resists. "The bottom is when you're stretching the band the most, which also happens to be the weakest point in the range of motion," he says. So the band is giving you the most assistance right when you need it. In this way, bands can help you train through those difficult sticking points in your bodyweight exercises to help you improve your overall strength. | Using Bands to Resist | Now we apply that same concept in the opposite way. Take push-ups, for example. For seasoned lifters, it's tough to make a bread-and-butter exercise like the push-up feel more strenuous without adding a ton of reps or adding gym implements like a weight vest or a plate. Using the same principle of variable resistance, you can not only make the push-up harder, but also apply the most resistance exactly where you need it. Loop a band behind your shoulder blades and anchor each end with your hands before beginning your push-up. Remember, the more you stretch a band, the harder it resists, so as you push through the push-up, you're creating more resistance. This is the basic principle of strength training: to work against increased resistance. "You're strongest at the top range of motion," Grage explains. "So now the strength curve more closely matches the resistance created by the band." Use a band to add resistance to your strongest lifts, such as squats and presses, to build even more size and strength. Watch this short video to see exactly how Grage uses these bands to get a better workout, and for more at-home workout ideas, check out our complete program list here or on the BodyFit app. ============================================= | Follow Us | ► YouTube: http://bit.ly/1RSJFa4 ► Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1lomhpr ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/1LzBxab ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/1RSJQlL ► Google+: http://bit.ly/1NRe8qu ► Pinterest: http://bit.ly/1OOZgY4 ► Spotify: http://spoti.fi/1NRebm0 We are Bodybuilding.com.
